Many of the
assignees that evacuated Japan
following March’s natural disaster have now returned.
The earthquake
and tsunami that devastated much of northern Japan
also led to fears of a radiation leak from the Fukushima nuclear plant. This led to an
exodus of expatriates, particularly from the area around the plant, with some governments
chartering flights to evacuate their citizens.
While most
expatriates have now returned, it is still not quite business as usual. The
number of relocations inbound to Japan is less than would be
expected at this time of year. The confidence of businesses operating in the
region may still take some time to recover.
