Sterling Prepares for the Olympics
14-12-2011
As preparations for the London 2012 Olympics gain momentum, Sterling is remaining in contact with Games organisers LOCOG, TFL (transport for London) and the FTA (Freight Transport Association), to ensure we have up to date information on expected road restrictions.
Maps showing day by day expected problem areas have now been released by LOCOG. These will be useful in helping us determine which areas we can sensibly travel in each day. A ‘postcode finder’, showing events in particular areas each day, will also enable us to effectively plan delivery routes.
The main Olympic Road Network (traffic restrictions along certain key routes) will come into effect from 13th July through to 2-3 days after the Games, although some parts will start in June.
That said, authorities are seeking to minimise disruption as much as possible: tolls on the Dartford tunnel are being suspended during the Olympics, to allow free movement of traffic. And, temporary licenses are being given to allow vehicles to travel in restricted areas / hours during the Olympics.
