Australian Immigration to evaluate Professional Year visa programme
17-01-2012
Since its foundation in 2008, the Professional Year programme has been available to Engineers, Accountants and IT Professionals immigrating to Australia, assisting them in finding gainful employment and, after successful completion, providing them with 5 points towards meeting the Points Based Skilled Migration pass mark. However, the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) have announced that they will be evaluating this programme in the coming year.
The current Professional Year programme is a structured professional development programme, combining formal learning and workplace experience, planned to familiarise participants with the Australian employment market and workplace culture, and educate them in all aspects of work practices in an Australian company. Current and past Professional Year students will be requested to anonymously complete a survey regarding their own experiences.
The proposed evaluation will assess if the Year is achieving the original objectives and identify areas for improvement in the immigration programme, and will form a discussion paper to be published later this year.
